It’s been a very long day, but I am happy to announce that I made it to Florence without a hitch. Let the adventure begin.
I spent a big chunk of the day wandering around the city. Florence is not nearly as big as I originally thought and totally walkable. The only hitch was the heat. Today it made it to +38. It has been pretty hot in Toronto, but I don’t normally spend 4 or 5 hours during peak heat wandering around. Needless to say I’m drinking a lot of water.
I’m having a good time, but traveling solo is proving a bit of an adjustment. For example, I couldn’t bring myself to eat a restaurant today, opting instead for picking up things at bakeries and supermarkets. Tomorrow I am going to bite that bullet.
I am happy to report that I’ve been trying to speak Italian as much as possible and there have been a few people who are willing to humor me and engage in conversation. I just need to get a bit more bold.
Here are some pictures from Day 1 (in no particular order). More to come.
